After all the planning and preparation the wait is finally over. On arrival at Hobart Airport our experienced guides will meet you and head to the Port Arthur historical site. Our scenic drive south-east to the Tasman Peninsula is the perfect opportunity for your guides to introduce this beautiful area to you. Once at Port Arthur we will explore this area by foot on a walking tour and access to more than 30 historic buildings, ruins, restored houses, heritage gardens and walking trails. This is a great way to start our adventure and prepare for the longer walks over the next three days. Overnight NRMA Bunkhouse accommodation

This morning we will rise to our beautiful surroundings and have breakfast before we head out on our first bushwalk to Cape Hauy. This walk takes us through a diverse range of vegetation types and ends with exhilarating coastal views from the spectacular, huge cliffs. This well-graded track is also the last day's walk of this spectacular coastal trail. We will have a picnic lunch en-route. In the late afternoon we arrive at our comfortable accommodation where you can kick back with a soft drink while your guides cook up a BBQ feast where we can start preparing dinner and discussing the next days walk. Overnight NRMA Bunkhouse accommodation

Today we walk to the massive and magnificent Cape Raoul. The track is challenging – undulating through wind-blasted coastal scrub – yet supremely rewarding. Keep a look out for Pademelons and Bennets wallabies on the track, and the endangered Wedge-tailed Eagle swooping overhead. We come across huge sea cliffs which are home to the infamous Shipsterns Bluff, one of Australia's biggest and most gnarly surf-breaks. Here there is an abundance of bird life and expansive views across the Tasman sea and to Cape Pillar. At the right time of the year, it's possible to see whales migrating along the coast. Lunch will be a picnic on the trail. Late this afternoon we return to our accommodation and prepare for dinner. Overnight NRMA Bunkhouse accommodation

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we rise early, have our last breakfast before we pack up our gear and depart the Tasman Peninsula and head to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary near Hobart. Bonorong is a Sanctuary for wildlife run by a passionate team of like-minded people. A visit to Bonorong is a chance to come closer than ever to something wild and fragile. You’ll come face to face with animals that went extinct long ago in other parts of Australia — the same animals they are working hard to protect now. We will join a tour and find out more about our beloved Australian animals, such as the Tasmanian devil, sugar gliders, the eastern quolls, Tasmanian bettongs and many others. After exploring the Sanctuary we will be dropped off at the airport for our flight to Melbourne.

Learning outcomes for students

A World Expeditions Schools adventure is a unique learning experience. Our journeys are designed to encourage thriving and positive youth development along with leaving the communities and environments where we travel in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to enhance the following life skills that will help you grow as an individual:
• the confidence to lead a group and make decisions
• the value of working together as a cohesive team to achieve a common objective
• the ability to face mental and physical challenges
• the ability to adapt to new environments outside of their 'comfort zone'
• to appreciate and care for the natural environment. The environments we trek through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment
• build strong friendships and bonds with their peers and also the local peoples
• basic outdoor skills obtained on trek such as personal hygiene, pitching a tent, helping to prepare meals
Importantly our adventures help increase general well-being and build resilience in young citizens to help them deal with adverse situations in life.
