Tim Macartney-Snape

Tim is one of Australia’s most respected mountaineers and an inspiring leader with a passion for guiding small groups into remote and truly wild places.

He has climbed Everest twice, as well as Ama Dablam and Gasherbrum IV, among many other significant peaks. His high altitude experience is matched by a deep curiosity about the landscapes he travels through.

Tim enriches exploratory treks with his knowledge of natural history and his genuine understanding of Himalayan culture, bringing insight and perspective to every journey he leads.

Lydia Bradey

Lydia Bradey is an IFMGA International Mountain & Ski Guide and one of the world’s most accomplished high-altitude mountaineers. In 1988 she became the first woman to summit Mt Everest without supplementary oxygen, and she has since climbed ten 8000m peaks, including six ascents of Everest.

She has successfully guided Everest five times and has led more than 35 expeditions above 6000m.

Specialising in remote and extreme environments, Lydia brings deep technical expertise and calm decision-making to every expedition.

Lydia is passionate about helping climbers push beyond perceived limits.

Juddha Bahadur Rai

Juddha has been guiding treks in Nepal since 1992, bringing more than three decades of experience to the mountains. Originally from Eastern Nepal, he has an enduring connection to the landscapes and communities that shape Himalayan trekking.

When asked about his favourite trek, he says it is like choosing a favourite child. He has no single preference and genuinely enjoys leading adventures throughout Nepal, wherever the trail may lead.

Calm, experienced and deeply knowledgeable, Juddha’s long standing commitment to guiding our trekkers ensures a steady and enriching experience for every group he supports.

Bal Kumari Mukhia

Bal has been guiding with World Expeditions since 2012. Originally from Darjeeling in India, she brings deep regional knowledge and a strong connection to the Himalayan landscapes she works in.

Her favourite trek is the Ultimate Annapurna Dhaulagiri. She values the variety it offers, beginning with village trails rich in daily life and culture, then moving into more remote and rugged terrain before returning once again to inhabited valleys. For Bal Kumari, this changing rhythm between community and wilderness makes the journey especially rewarding and dynamic.

Ngawang Sherpa

Ngawang Sherpa is originally from the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal, home to some of the world’s highest peaks and a strong mountaineering heritage.

With extensive experience in high altitude environments, Ngawang has participated in expeditions to Saribung, Mera Peak, Island Peak, Cholo, Kyajo Ri, Baruntse, Gorakh Changla, Ama Dablam, Cholatse and Yubra Himal. His background in both trekking peaks and technical climbing routes reflects a deep understanding of Himalayan terrain and conditions.

Soren Kruse-Ledet

One of our most experienced leaders, Soren has summited numerous Himalayan peaks, completed a six month traverse of Nepal and attempted Everest solo.

He has led climbs and treks across Nepal, Tibet, China and Bhutan, including expeditions to Cho Oyu. His depth of experience across a wide range of terrain brings confidence and perspective to every group he guides.

Popular for his easy going nature and professional approach, Soren regularly leads challenging Himalayan adventures and shares his expertise through webinars and expedition briefings.

Khumraj Rayamajhi - Cook

Khumraj has been working as a trekking cook since 1996 and is originally from Dhapasi in Kathmandu. With decades of experience supporting Himalayan expeditions, he understands exactly what it takes to keep teams strong and energised in remote mountain environments.

He especially enjoys working on treks in the Everest region, inspired by its diverse cultures and spectacular views. For Khumraj, preparing fresh, nourishing meals at altitude is both a craft and a source of pride.

Cooks are one of the most important parts of any trek. They fuel the team, lift spirits after long days on the trail and help create the sense of camaraderie that defines a great expedition.

Bir Singh

Bir is one of our most versatile leaders, escorting our trekking groups along challenging sections of the Great Himalaya Trail, our family treks in the Annapurna region, private special interest groups to Everest Base Camp and our Mera and Island Peak Expeditions. He has also been instrumental in the organisation of our community projects at the Sanjiwani Health Clinic which has seen positive change for this important medical facility in the lower Annapurnas. Bir is a very popular guide with all groups he is involved with.

Garry Weare

Garry has been involved with World Expeditions since its inception in the mid 1970s. He is a recognised authority on the Indian Himalaya with his intimate knowledge of the region documented in the Lonely Planet guidebook ‘Trekking in the Indian Himalaya’ now in its 5th edition. He is also a founding director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation.

Andrew Lock

Andrew is an inspiring and immensely accomplished adventurer, and a wonderful communicator. In October 2009 he conquered Shishapangma, Tibet, becoming the first Australian to climb all 14 of the world’s 8000m peaks – a feat only achieved by a select few worldwide. His achievements include multiple ascents of Everest, Lhotse and Manaslu, five Australian first ascents and establishment of many new routes.

Dr Ross Anderson

Dr Anderson lives with his wife in a small town near the Lakes District in the north of England. He is a family doctor and spends much of his spare time travelling as an expedition doctor. He has more than 10 years of altitude and travel medicine experience. Previous treks and expeditions have focused on the Himalayas, with others in the Scandinavian Arctic and mountainous areas of Africa. He also enjoys trail running, cycling and open-water swimming.

Samde Sherpa

Samde Sherpa has been guiding treks in Nepal since 2010 and is originally from Ramechhap. He brings local knowledge and practical experience to every journey.

His favourite trek is Upper Mustang, a region he values for its preserved Tibetan influenced culture and distinctive desert landscapes.

Samde appreciates the opportunity it offers travellers to witness traditions and ways of life that remain deeply rooted in the Himalaya.
