School trip and project ideas in Asia

From China to Japan and Mongolia to Thailand, Asia is blessed with natural and cultural beauty. Despite this beauty, dense populations, emerging economies and the industrialisation of many Asian countries make this area of the world particularly susceptible to environmental and cultural deterioration.

To minimise the impact of our School Group trips in Asia on the natural environment we practice the '7 Principals of Leave No Trace', in addition to supporting local economies by employing guides and staff from local communities.

Our Animal Welfare Code of Conduct and Child Welfare Code of Conduct ensure the well-being of animals and children encountered on our educational experiences.

Hotels

In cities and larger towns across Asia, you stay in carefully selected 3 to 4 star properties chosen for their comfort, character and consistent reliability.

Hotels are typically centrally located or well positioned for easy access to major sights, local markets and cultural highlights, allowing you to explore with ease. Each property is selected based on long standing performance and strong traveller satisfaction over many years.

These stays feature primarily in our In Comfort range.

Lodges

In select regions across Asia, you stay in quality lodges set within natural surroundings, from forested hills to river valleys and mountain landscapes.

These lodges offer comfortable, authentic accommodation that reflects the character of the region while providing clean, well maintained facilities. Chosen as the best available option for their location, they balance atmosphere with practicality, allowing you to relax in comfort while remaining close to nature.

Ryokans

Traditional ryokans offer an authentic introduction to Japanese culture and hospitality.

You sleep on comfortable futon bedding laid out on tatami mat floors in beautifully minimalist rooms designed for calm and simplicity. Sliding rice paper screens divide spaces, and shoes are left at the entrance in keeping with custom.

Staying in a ryokan is as much about atmosphere as accommodation, offering a quiet, refined experience that reflects centuries of tradition.

Traditional Junk Boats

In select regions of Asia, you stay on board a traditional junk boat, crafted from aromatic wood and designed to blend heritage style with modern comfort.

Cabins are twin share with private ensuite facilities, offering a relaxed base as you cruise through scenic waterways. While features vary by vessel, many include open viewing decks, indoor dining areas, panoramic windows and comfortable lounge or library spaces.

This style of accommodation allows you to experience the landscape from a different perspective, travelling and resting on the water itself.

Camping

Enjoy fully supported camping in scenic wilderness settings across Asia, allowing you to travel beyond towns and deeper into nature.

Quality two-person tents are erected for you each day, along with a dedicated dining tent and a private toilet tent with a sit toilet. Your crew manages all camp logistics, including meal preparation, so you can focus on the adventure ahead.

This style of travel keeps you close to the landscape while maintaining a low environmental impact and a comfortable, well organised camp experience.

These trips feature in our Classic Adventures range.

Homestays

In select regions across Asia, you may stay with a local family in a traditional homestay, offering genuine insight into daily life, culture and cuisine.

Accommodation is simple yet clean and comfortable, typically with communal sleeping arrangements and shared bathroom facilities. What makes the experience memorable is the warmth of your hosts and the opportunity to share meals, stories and everyday routines.

A homestay adds depth to your adventure, creating meaningful connections beyond the usual traveller experience.

Ger Camps

In Mongolia and parts of Central Asia, you may stay in a traditional ger, the circular felt tent used by nomadic families for generations.

Spacious and comfortably furnished with proper beds, gers offer a unique opportunity to experience life on the steppe while spending time with local hosts. The simple structure is designed for the climate, warm in cool conditions and well ventilated in summer.

As night falls, soft lighting creates a warm and atmospheric setting, adding to the sense of place and connection to the surrounding landscape.
