US dollars cash are by far the easiest foreign currency to exchange in Guatemala. We recommend you only take US$ notes from 2006 or newer, and with the new large-head design. Older or torn notes are not accepted in Guatemala.

Electricity

Electricity in Guatemala is 120 Volts, at 60 hertz. The most common pin type is A. (2 flat prong).

Visas

Australian, British, Canadian, United States and New Zealand passport holders do not require a visa for entry into Guatemala for stays of up to 90 days.

You must complete an electronic declaration form before arriving and leaving Guatemala. You will then receive a QR code. Keep your QR code in order to present it to authorities upon your arrival or departure.

Visa regulations change and you should be prepared for this. If you are stopping over or transiting other countries en-route to your destination, you should also check the visa requirements for that destination. It is your responsibility to obtain the necessary visas.

All other nationalities should check with your nearest embassy or consulate.

We suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Money and valuables should always be stored safely when travelling. Keep your passport with you at all times and do not leave it in your main luggage. You will need it to change money and check into hotels. Where safety deposit boxes are available, we recommend that you use them. Keep jewellery and valuables to a minimum.
