Bali has a rich culture and beautiful environment to be discovered on this educational and immersive cultural exploration with plenty of hands-on experiences for students. Students will visit Bali’s stunning temples in a cultural journey into Balinese spirituality and gain meaningful insight into local life, community dynamics, and the projects aimed at sustainable development. Through a cooking class, farming activities, traditional dancing, canang sari making, seaweed projects and mangrove cleanups, students will gain immersive experiences and a new appreciation for Balinese culture, traditions and biodiversity. The wildlife and nature of Bali is breathtaking and students will gain appreciation for the environments and conservation projects needed to protect them.

Day 1
Bali Arrival

Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport, your guide will be ready to transfer you to your hotel in Denpasar, the capital city of Bali. Head to a restaurant in town for a delicious dinner.

Day 2
Temple and Blessing in Sebatu - Transfer to Manggis

Today’s cultural journey involves a spiritual exploration of Bali. It starts with a visit to Sebatu, a village renowned for its preserved temples. Here, you’ll learn about the temples’ history and their importance to the local community. The trip includes a visit to a sacred water site for a cleansing ritual involving traditional Balinese attire and prayer. Transfer (2.5-hours) to Manggis, a tranquil coastal retreat on Bali’s lesser-explored eastern coast.

Day 3
Village Orientation - Fertilizer Making - Farming

Attend a brief village orientation, providing insights into local life, community dynamics, and sustainable development projects. Engage in an activity and make liquid or dry organic fertiliser, depending on current needs. Follow farmers trails to the organic rice fields where the farming practices align with Hindu Balinese beliefs of protecting the earth and being kind to nature. During planting season, practice techniques of planting rice ready for the harvest season.

Day 4
Cooking Class - Traditional Dancing - Canang Sari Making - Return to Ubud

Today you’ll engage in a cooking activity where a local chef will take you through the steps, ingredients, health and safety standards, and the history behind their menu. After lunch, enjoy a traditional Balinese dance, learning a rich and vibrant form of cultural expression within the local community. Later, create a Canang Sari, a daily offering expressing gratitude to the Almighty God, by crafting an offering using woven coconut leaves, rice, vibrant flowers, fruits, and spices.

Day 5
Explore Waterfall & Ubud Surrounding Full-Day Tour - Transfer to Sanur

Today you will be visiting Ubud to explore its beauty and immerse yourself in cultural activities. You’ll stop in Tohpati, where Batik fabrics are created by hand, and stop at Celuk, where you’ll see how jewellery is made. See the stunning rice fields of Tegalalang before visiting the macaque monkeys who inhabit the Monkey Forest. Depart to Tegenungan Waterfall to relax in the scenic area before transferring to your hotel.

Day 6
NGOs/ Social Enterprise Visit - Tanah Lot Sunset Tour

Transfer to an NGOs/ social enterprise for educational learning purposes of sustainable development. Visit Alas Kedaton, home to one of Bali’s famed monkey forests, featuring unique and sacred nutmeg trees. Continue to Mengwi to visit the former Royal Temple, Pura Taman Ayun, one of the most beautiful temples on the island. Finally, enjoy a sunset visit to Tanah Lot.

Day 7
Seaweed Project at Nusa Penida Island

Head out on a speedboat journey to Nusa Penida island. Engage with local seaweed farmers and dive into Seaweed Agriculture Education, involving hands-on experiences like harvesting, replanting seaweed, and the drying process. You’ll promote sustainability of marine resources, discover the diverse seaweed applications, and understand the role of seaweed farming for subsistence. Enjoy a workshop and learn to craft soap and beauty products using seaweed before returning to Bali mainland.

Day 8
Mangrove Cleanup & Planting - Uluwatu Temple

Transfer to Ngural Rai’s Mangrove Area and begin by listening to a speech by a local youth-run organisation who have started an environmental movement for mangrove ecosystems. In canoes, remove debris from the mangrove forest before engaging in a sharing session with locals, exchanging insights on mangrove forest preservation. Visit the Mangrove Nursery and participate in Mangrove Planting. After lunch, visit the renowned Uluwatu Temple.
