Step back in time with a guided visit to the awe-inspiring ancient city of Teotihuacán, where the towering Pyramids of the Sun and Moon rise dramatically above the Valley of Mexico. As you wander the Avenue of the Dead, your guide will bring this once-thriving Mesoamerican metropolis to life with stories of its mysteries, rituals, and remarkable engineering. After exploring the site, enjoy a leisurely lunch with a spectacular view overlooking the pyramids—an unforgettable setting to reflect on the grandeur of the civilization that once flourished here. The experience continues with a visit to a local obsidian workshop, where you’ll learn about this ancestral volcanic stone and the traditional techniques artisans have used for generations to transform it into tools, art, and intricate crafts.

During this three-hour boat ride, soak up one of Mexico City’s most vibrant cultural traditions—music floating across the water, colorful boats passing by, and a festive atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the world. Afterward, head to the charming neighborhood of Coyoacán for lunch, where cobblestone streets and leafy plazas set the scene. Continue with an immersive walk through its lively markets, artisan stalls, and historic squares, discovering the creative spirit that has long defined the area—most famously as the home of Frida Kahlo and a hub of Mexican art and culture.

Immerse yourself in Oaxaca’s rich artisan traditions with a hands-on journey into its most iconic crafts. Begin with black clay (barro negro), decorating your own piece in an intimate local workshop where this striking, centuries-old technique comes to life. Continue to Santo Tomás Jalieza for a textile exhibition held in the home of local artisans, where you’ll learn how rugs are woven primarily using pedal (treadle) looms, which allow artisans to create large and complex pieces, including carpets up to three meters long (nine feet). Then dive into the colorful world of alebrijes, Mexico’s most celebrated folk art, as you craft and paint your own fantastical wooden figure in a family-owned workshop, guided by the skilled hands that have kept this vibrant tradition alive for generations.

Discover the cultural heart of Oaxaca with a visit to Monte Albán, the region’s most important archaeological site and the ancient capital of the Zapotec civilization. Perched high above the valley, its sweeping plazas, pyramids, and carved stone monuments offer breathtaking views and a powerful glimpse into a sophisticated culture that flourished more than a thousand years ago. Continue to Reyes Etla for a hands-on quesillo (Oaxacan cheese) workshop with a traditional cook, where you’ll learn the time-honored techniques behind this beloved local specialty—and taste it fresh, of course. Round out the day with a paper art workshop led by local artisans, exploring a millenary tradition of papermaking before letting your creativity flow to craft your own imaginative piece of art.

Afterward, savor an unforgettable lunch prepared by one of Oaxaca’s most renowned cooks, celebrating the depth and complexity of the region’s cuisine. The experience continues with an in-depth exploration of handloom textile artistry—from weaving is done using the backstrap loom—an ancestral technique practiced exclusively by women. This method produces smaller, fully handmade pieces such as table runners and bracelets. Conclude the day in Teotitlán del Valle with a meaningful tree-planting activity, connecting craftsmanship, culture, and community with care for the land that sustains it all.
