After breakfast we head to the Long Ago People's Place. Located in the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Long Ago People’s Place is an immersive cultural site and authentic re-creation of a traditional Yukon First Nations village. Guided by experienced elders with a wealth of knowledge, we are led through forested trails and taught about traditional structures, tools and survival techniques used by their ancestors. This experience also incorporates storytelling from these elder guides, who share elements of their historical and modern day Southern Tutchone culture and social values. We gain the opportunity to learn through Indigenous knowledge systems, and experience the ingenuity that has sustained the vibrant cultures of First Nations in a far northern environment. The lunch provided typically consists of hearty soup and bannock. In the afternoon, visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, which offers a unique opportunity to encounter over a dozen iconic northern species within 350 acres of diverse natural habitat. During this guided tour along a 5 km (3 mi) loop, we will explore open meadows, forests, wetlands, and rocky ridges, making frequent stops for wildlife viewing and photography. Led by experienced wildlife interpreters, this educational experience introduces us to native Yukon species such as moose, bison, elk, caribou, and mountain goats. Themes of biodiversity, species adaptation, and habitat conservation are emphasized, offering a deeper understanding of Yukon’s ecosystems and the challenges faced by northern wildlife. It’s an engaging way to connect students to environmental science and local conservation efforts through direct observation and knowledgeable experts. Dinner and overnight in Whitehorse.

After breakfast, we head to Lumel Studios, a vibrant glass blowing facility known for its Northern-inspired creations and commitment to community engagement. Often referred to as the “Happiness Factory” due to its inclusive environment and socially conscious practises, it offers an unique opportunity to create a lasting piece of art and allow inner creativity to thrive. Guided by skilled instructors, we will learn the origins and social mission of Lumel Studios before participating in a hands-on glass blowing workshop. We will connect with the transformative power of this art style through learning the techniques and artistry behind working with molten glass and crafting our very own glass sculpture. This immersive experience introduces students to the science, history, and creative potential of glass blowing, while encouraging artistic exploration and personal expression. After lunch, we head just outside Whitehorse, to Miles Canyon which offers us a chance to explore a striking natural landscape with key historical significance. Once a major obstacle for stampeders during the Klondike Gold Rush, the canyon is now a peaceful setting for outdoor learning and exploration. We can walk alongside the turquoise waters of the Yukon River, cross the historic suspension bridge, and take in panoramic views of the basalt cliffs. In warmer months, extended hiking options along the surrounding trail network provide opportunities for physical activity, ecological observation, and reflection in nature. During the winter season, snow may limit access to longer routes, but the viewpoints and bridge remain accessible for a shorter outdoor experience. Dinner and overnight in Whitehorse.

After breakfast, we set off to Dawson City where we start the second leg of our tour. We stop en route for lunch at Five Finger Rapids, one of the Yukon River's most famous natural landmarks, located about 25 km (15 mi) north of Carmacks. The rapids get their name from four rocky islands that divide the river into five narrow channels, creating the appearance of five "fingers" reaching through the water. Dinner and overnight in Dawson City.

After breakfast, our first activity of the day is the Trapping and Fur Workshop. In this workshop, we meet with a local Yukon trapper to explore the history, ethics, and modern-day practice of trapping in the North. Through direct engagement with fur pelts, handmade items, and traditional tools, we gain insight into the role of trapping in Yukon culture and survival. The session covers the logistics and process of trapping and engages with the regulations and sustainability concerns involved with hunting and trapping in northern communities. Topics include the respectful use of animals, seasonal practices, and perspectives on hunting and land use. We will also see examples of traps and learn how they are used responsibly. This experience offers a grounded look at Yukon’s resource-based traditions and fosters discussion around conservation, cultural practices, and ethical harvesting. After lunch, we step into the past with a visit to the Dawson City Museum, where we will take part in a murder mystery activity within the exhibits that brings the Klondike Gold Rush era to life. Housed in a beautifully preserved heritage building, the museum showcases the stories, struggles, and successes of those who shaped Dawson during one of the most fascinating chapters in Canadian history. We become detectives solving a fictional crime rooted in real-life characters and events from Dawson’s past. Through this engaging, interactive experience, students learn about the social dynamics, personalities, and challenges of life in a Gold Rush boomtown. This program encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and historical empathy—offering an entertaining and educational way to explore Dawson’s rich history. Our last activity of the day is the Midnight Dome Excursion. Take in the breathtaking beauty of the Klondike from the top of Midnight Dome, Dawson City’s most iconic viewpoint. This short drive leads us to a 360-degree panoramic vista overlooking the Klondike and Yukon Rivers, the townsite, and the expansive wilderness beyond—offering excellent photo opportunities! Once at the top, we will have time to play group games or participate in facilitated discussions. The setting provides a relaxed and inspiring environment for connection, reflection, and learning. Along the way and at the top, guides share cultural and historical stories about Dawson City, the Klondike Gold Rush, and the significance of the landscape to local Indigenous communities. Dinner and overnight in Dawson City.

Explore the spectacular landscapes of Tombstone Territorial Park on a guided adventure through the boreal forest and into the arctic tundra. Known for its dramatic peaks, unique subarctic ecosystems, and cultural significance to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, Tombstone offers students an opportunity to experience Yukon’s remote beauty in every season. Activities in the park: - In warmer seasons we will take a guided hike to explore local ecology, wildlife and plant identification, and stunning landscape views. During the winter this option is replaced with a snowshoe adventure along the frozen river or at several viewpoints. - Lunch, hot drinks and snacks will be enjoyed in the warm cook shack or outdoor campfires and picnic tables in the Tombstone Mountain Campground - Adventuring further into the park, our guide will make several stops at key locations such as the Continental Divide, Two Moose Lake and Chapman Lake, offering details about the ecology, history and culture of the park. For an even more immersive experience, groups visiting in late spring or early summer have the option to extend their adventure with an overnight camping trip in the park. We have a unique chance to immerse ourselves in the environment, learn outdoor living skills, and experience the quiet majesty of the park under the midnight sun or early evening stars. Whether visiting for a day or staying overnight, this activity blends environmental science, cultural awareness, and outdoor adventure—fostering a sense of place and respect for the northern wilderness. Dinner and overnight in Dawson City.

Step back in time today and discover Dawson City’s Gold Rush history with a guided walking tour through its historic downtown core. As we walk the same streets once crowded with gold-hungry stampeders, performers, and entrepreneurs, we’ll hear stories of ambition, hardship, and resilience that shaped life in the Klondike. This tour includes access to several beautifully preserved Gold Rush-era buildings not open to the general public. Highlights may include a grand old saloon, a stately bank, and a post office once hailed as one of the finest in the country. Through engaging interpretation delivered by expert historical guides, this tour brings the past to life through storytelling and first-hand encounters with Dawson’s architectural heritage. We gain a deeper understanding of Canada’s northern frontier history and the social forces that defined the era in one of the most iconic Gold Rush towns in the world. Afterwards, free time to explore, or engage in a town scavenger hunt challenge. After lunch, we head off on our City Tour and Goldfields where we view key historical buildings and sites on a driving tour before heading out to the goldfields to learn about past and present mining operations with optional gold panning activity. Or, engage in guided survival skills workshops such as fire making or shelter building and other winter activities. After dinner, settle in for movie night for the film First We Eat. Created by a local Dawson City filmmaker, First We Eat is a documentary that follows one family’s journey as they commit to eating only food they can harvest, hunt, fish, forage, or source locally for an entire year. Set against the backdrop of the Yukon wilderness, the film is both deeply personal and widely relevant—exploring what it means to live sustainably and in connection with the land. Through authentic storytelling, First We Eat delves into themes of community connection, food security, traditional knowledge, and the resilience of northern lifestyles. We are invited to reflect on the value of local food systems, the importance of shared knowledge, and the role of culture and environment in shaping how we live. Dinner and overnight in Dawson City.

After breakfast, we take a short hike to Crocus Bluffs, a scenic lookout and short interpretive trail located above the city, offering sweeping views of the Yukon River, the Klondike River, and the surrounding valley. For generations, Crocus Bluff was an important lookout for the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation. Archaeological evidence indicates the bluff was used as a watch point over the river, where people monitored the annual salmon runs and repaired stone tools. When the first salmon were spotted, the news would be signaled to the village below so fish traps could be prepared.Afterwards, we head to the airport for our return flights home.
