This morning we wake and catch the ferry to Fremantle before driving towards the Perth Hills Discovery centre for our Biodiversity in the bush program. Plants need animals, animals need plants. But do they need humans? On this excursion students will explore, through hands on activities and field visits, the biodiversity of our forests, its inhabitants’ relationships and how humans are impacting and managing the forest ecosystems. Students will learn about the unique wildlife conservation program being implemented in the region called Western Shield, and learn how they monitor fauna populations and what strategies are being employed to limit the threat posed by introduced predators. Our program will run from 10am to 2pm. After the program we continue our drive to the Dryandra Woodlands and set up our base at the Dryandra Woodlands Village Complex. Tonight at 6:30pm after dinner we visit Barna Mia, the nocturnal wildlife experience. Barna Mia is a predator-proof animal sanctuary with a difference. Nestled in the heart of Dryandra Woodland, 170km south-east of Perth, Barna Mia is a place to discover threatened native marsupials in a natural setting. Experience the wonder of the woodland once the sun has set and the action begins. Using special red spotlights, you can see threatened native animals such as bilbies, burrowing bettongs, rufous hare-wallabies, quendas, woylies and western barred bandicoots. Overnight Dryandra Village

Dryandra Woodland is one of the worlds acknowledged biodiversity hot spots, and one of the prime places in the South-West for viewing native wildlife. This protected area is a valuable nature conservation area featuring the largest remnant of original vegetation in the western Wheat belt. 24 mammal, 100 bird and 41 reptile species are all known to call Dryandra home, including Western Australia’s state mammal emblem, the numbat (Myrmecobius fasciatus). Today we will immerse our self in an interactive conservation program called Tracks, Scats and Traces. Tonight we have the opportunity to see a number of rare native mammals in their natural setting on a nocturnal wildlife walk. Overnight Dryandra Village

This morning we wake to the sound of birds bringing in the morning. After breakfast we drive South to the coastal town of Albany at the Southern tip of Western Australia. Albany has one of the most spectacular natural harbours in the world and a dramatic convict history. We can explore the European history including the first settlement in WA before we travel to see how Albany is using alternative energy at the Albany Wind Farm. The farm consists of 12 giant wind turbines, each at a height of 100 metres from the base to the tip of the blades. The turbines generate around 75 per cent of clean, green electricity for the region. We then visit the stunning natural attractions the Gap and Natural Bridge on the south coast. Albany's new viewing platform at the Gap stands 40 metres above deep surging seas giving us outstanding views and photo opportunities. This afternoon we check our equipment and prepare for our trek on the Bibbulmun Track tomorrow. Overnight Emu Chalets

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we travel to Albany's Historic Whaling Station, the only experience of its kind in the world. He were can explore the intact whale processing factory and the fully restored whale chasing ship. The Cheynes Beach Whaling Company was the last whaling company to cease operations in Australia, closing in 1978. Opening in 1980 (known then as Whale World), it is now home to an interactive museum on whales and whaling. We will join local passionate experts on a behind the scenes exploration of the whaling factory to gain an informative overview of the stations operations. This afternoon we start our trek on the Bibbulmun Track. The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long distance walking trails, stretching 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast, winding through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia. This afternoon we walk one of the most stunning coastal sections from Shelly Beach to Cosy Corner. The terrain on todays walk will take us along spectacular white sandy beaches, granite outcrops once connected to Antarctica and boardwalks through native shrubs and grasslands. The track is named to recognise the early indigenous inhabitants of the southwest, the Bibbulmun. It was known that the Bibbulmun people walked long distances through the forests for ceremonial gatherings, and the name was adopted as being unique and appropriate for a trail on which it was hoped walkers would adopt the same feeling of oneness with nature as those people of long ago. Our vehicle will pick us up at Cosy Corner after our hike and take us to our accommodation at Emu Beach Chalets in Albany

Albany has one of the most spectacular natural harbours in the world and a dramatic convict history. This morning we can explore the European history including the first settlement in WA before visiting the award winning National Anzac Centre, one of Australia’s most important cultural pilgrimages. Located within Albany’s heritage listed Princess Royal Fortress, the centre overlooks the actual harbour from which over 41,000 men and women departed Australia for the Great War. After our exploration we move accommodation to the stunning town of Walpole and stay at the Coalmine Beach Chalets. We then visit Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks. Greens Pool is famous for its turquoise waters and pristine white sands edged with granite boulders. The pool is the centrepiece of William Bay National Park and the area is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, relaxing and exploring the granite rocks. This afternoon we prepare for the second day of trekking on the Bibbulmun Track. Overnight Coalmine Beach Cabins

Our walk today heads into ancient Karri and Tingle forest. The trail will take us through stunning native wildflower country. Much of the plant life in this forest is unique to the south-west of Western Australia. The giant Tingle trees are the star of the show, the trees only occur in this small area of the world and provide a window to the past. The imposing trees stand up to 180 feet tall with a red brown bark. The Tingles are surrounded by Jarrah and Karri forest. We first drive to the Valley of the Giants Tree-top Walk. The TTW is a suspended walkway high in the karri and red tingle tree forest between Denmark and Walpole. The walkway is positioned 40 metres above the ground in the spectacular heights of the tingle forest canopy. The surrounding Walpole Wilderness features a vast, natural and wild landscape encompassing tranquil forests, imposing granite peaks, peaceful rivers, wetlands and breathtaking beaches. We can study the forest and interpret the unique biodiversity and majesty of the Wilderness from our high vantage point. From the Tree-top walk we continue our trek on the Bibbulmun Track to Conspicuous cliffs. This afternoon we join one of the WOW Wilderness eco-interpreters for an informative 2 1/2 hour cruise on the beautiful and unique waterways of the Walpole and Nornalup Inlets Marine Park to the Nuyts Wilderness, WA's first Wilderness Zone. The cruise is lead by local legend Gary Muir, and is a wonderful way to see animals in their natural habitat and learn about the conservation efforts for this stunning area. Tonight we return to Coalmine Beach Chalets.

This morning we visit the giant Tingle Trees, a 1km walk will take us through ancient forest to one of the largest Eucalyptus trees in the world. The large Tingle Tree has been hollowed out by fire over the years giving a fascinating perspective. Today we will be involved in a program featuring Margaret Rivers alternative food, organic gardens and viticulture production with a series of hands on activities at Fair Harvest Village. This is a great place to start your permaculture journey – Fair harvest use their established systems to demonstrate permaculture in action and incorporate hands-on exercises to make it a fun and interactive program that will leave you with the basic skills you need to design and set up your own permaculture system. We cover the principles and ethics of permaculture, using zones and sectors, weeds and herbs (their uses in the nutrient cycle) and animal systems. This afternoon we join a community service program planting seedlings and making worm farm kits to be handed out amongst the community. Overnight Prevelly Park

This morning we rise early and after breakfast travel out to the Wilyabrup Sea Cliffs. These 40m high cliffs extend along the coast for about 500m and offer great elevated views along the coast. We can explore the stunning surrounds and pristine coastline as we trek down to Gracetown. The cliffs glow red against the whitewash of the surging ocean and it is an amazing sight. After our walk we will explore the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia. This historic lighthouse is situated at the most south-westerly point of Australia, at the tip of a spectacular peninsula - where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. We take a trip through maritime history and learn how this famous landmark was constructed from local limestone in 1895, and is still a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating the treacherous cape. The region from Busselton to Augusta is one of Australia's most cave-rich areas with unique formations giving us a glimpse into prehistoric times. We will join a professional caves guide and explore a number of the caves learning about Megafauna fossils – giant creatures that roamed the forest 50 000 years ago, geological formations and local indigenous legends and folklore. We join a night tour in the Bonarup Forest into the largest, longest and deepest of all caves in the area, Giants Cave. A 100 metre wide doline (a natural crater formed by the collapse of the cave roof) is your entrance. Overnight Prevelly Park
