Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we take a flight west to Pokhara, Nepal's second largest town (820m). On arrival you are greeted with sights of the mighty Annapurna Range. The drive to the road-head at Khara takes around one hour. Our trail then winds uphill through terraced fields and mixed oak and rhododendron forest. There is no need to rush. This is a short day with plenty of time to reach camp. We trek through sparse villages, farm terraces and cover a short stretch of forest to reach Dhampus (1650m). Stunning views of Annapurna and surrounding peaks greet us on reaching our campsite. Dhampus is not only a great view point but also a small, ethnic Gurung village. An optional walk will give us an opportunity to watch the daily lives of the villages from milking the buffaloes to their daily work on the farm. From the camp, we enjoy an amazing sunset on the Himalayas and weather permitting an equally stunning sunrise.

Meals:  B,L,D

The views from our campsite are excellent, and morning generally offers the best opportunity to view the huge peaks. As we walk, the peaks of the Annapurnas will be visible through the scattered rhododendron forest, offering a sample of the trek to come. After our longer uphill morning session, this afternoon will be a more gradual. We descend towards the Mardi Khola, trekking through dense forest of rhododendron, oak and birch until we reach the terraced fields of Landruk. We have time to explore the village and visit the nearby waterfall before spending the night at our private eco camp site.

Meals:  B,L,D

After leaving the village, the trail levels out to Landruk village which is situated on the east canton wall above the Modi River. From the picturesque village of Landruk, the views of the fishtail mountain, Machapuchare, Annapurna South (7273m) and Hiunchuli are magnificent as they dominate the skyline. After lunch, we make a steady descent to the Modi River where we cross to take the many, many steps up to the village of Ghandruk. There is ample time to explore this ancient village and you may wish to visit a privately owned Gurung village that provide a further insight into the lifestyle of villagers who have traditionally provided the backbone of the famous Gurkha regiments, a local medical centre or even a museum to understand more about this amazing part of the world.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we begin the last substantial days walk and gain stunning mountain views. We get way of the main trails and walk through small Nepali villages on single track trails. The mountains tower over us as we trek downhill to Jhobrang.

Meals:  B,L,D

After absorbing even more spectacular views of Annapurna South we head down the Modi Khola valley along a secluded village trail that is rarely followed by other trekking groups. After lunch at the scenic village of Dansing we complete a short, steep descent to the village of Birethanti along the Modi Khola. We cross a substantial bridge before making our way to Naya Pul where our bus will be waiting to take us to Pokhara. On arrival we will check into our hotel and freshen up before we head out to explore Pokhara and enjoy a meal at a local restaurant.

Meals:  B,L,D

After breakfast we transfer to the airport for our flight to Kathmandu, a spectacular mountain flight along the face of the Himalaya. On arrival we transfer to the hotel. You will have some free time in the afternoon to explore with your teachers and peers before we head to a local restaurant for a farewell dinner and trip de briefing. Accommodation in Kathmandu

Meals:  B,D

This morning following breakfast at the hotel we transfer to the international airport for the flight home.

Learning outcomes for students

A World Expeditions Schools adventure is a unique learning experience. Our journeys are designed to encourage thriving and positive youth development along with leaving the communities and environments where we travel in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to enhance the following life skills that will help you grow as an individual:
• the confidence to lead a group and make decisions
• the value of working together as a cohesive team to achieve a common objective
• the ability to face mental and physical challenges
• the ability to adapt to new environments outside of their 'comfort zone'
• to appreciate and care for the natural environment. The environments we trek through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment
• build strong friendships and bonds with their peers and also the local peoples
• basic outdoor skills obtained on trek such as personal hygiene, pitching a tent, helping to prepare meals
Importantly our adventures help increase general well-being and build resilience in young citizens to help them deal with adverse situations in life.

Grading

Introductory

To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the walking terrain, the altitude, the number of pass crossings and the length of the trek. The Annapurna Trek is graded introductory. This is primarily due to the low altitude gains and the condition of the trail which is well defined and not unduly demanding. During the trek you will be walking for up to five to six hours a day at a slow but steady pace. You will need a reasonable level of fitness (remember there is no such thing as an easy trek) and we suggest 30 minutes of aerobic type exercise, (either cycling or jogging) three times a week for the three months leading up to your trek. Hill walking with a daypack in variable weather conditions is also recommended.
