Kakadu National Park is a World Heritage Area covering some 20,000 square kms. Waterfalls tumble from the red cliffs off the Arnhem Land escarpment into shady pools; tranquil wetlands teem with animal and bird life, while 40,000 years of Aboriginal cultural heritage is on display in the numerous hidden rock art galleries. We combine a cultural immersion program with trekking in the National Park, art programs and on Country exploration

Depending on your arrival time we can have a full orientation of Darwin visiting the Botanical Gardens and Darwin waterfront. There are many opportunities for sketch drawing or painting at each location. In the early evening you will have a sunset BBQ at the waterfront and then head to your accommodation to rest and prepare for tomorrows program. Overnight hotel in Darwin

After breakfast you transfer to Limilngan-Wulna Country and meet with the local Aboriginal elders for a traditional Welcome to Country and a full trip and safety briefing before you start your cultural immersion program. Over the next three days you will engage with local Aboriginal people, the environment and wildlife, learning local artforms, music and crafts using natural materials. We will also learn basket weaving, dilly bag making and the techniques used in the process. You will learn the meaning behind Pudakul (the name of the Macaranga tree used to make spears) and try your hand at throwing one, along with learning about using local fibres and local ochre colours in everyday life as well as learn about local bush food and medicine. The local people are the custodians of the land and you learn how they have lived in harmony with the land over thousands of years. Tonight you will have a BBQ with your hosts and have storytelling and dreamtime stories around the campfire. Overnight camping at Pudakul

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning we rise and have breakfast with our hosts before continuing our cultural immersion program on Pudakul land. After lunch we head off into the stunning wetlands areas. We then head to one of Australia's most famous rock art sites at Ubirr. The walk at Ubirr is short but passes several breathtaking Aboriginal art sites. Our guide will provide interpretation about the art and how it was created. The setting is just stunning. We continue to our semi permanent campsite located at Djarradjin Billabong, in the heart of Kakadu National Park. Students will be required to help participate with set up, food prep and general camp duties. Overnight Djarradjin Camp

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning you wake to the dawn chorus of the multitude of birds of the Savannah and wetlands. Students help with breakfast routine and food prep before will take a short walk to take in the stunning lookouts of the Barrk and Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) rock art site. Barrk is the indigenous name for the male black wallaroo, a member of the kangaroo family which lives in this area. On your trek you learn of the ranger conservation programs operating in the park. This afternoon we can use the downtime to relax around the camp joining a range of art activities. Overnight Djarradjin Camp

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre which provides additional insights into Kakadu National Park. In the late afternoon you take a cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong, home to an astounding variety of wildlife. You may encounter Brumbies, wallabies and goannas drinking from the waterside, salt-water crocodile and thousands of birds including Magpie Geese, Brolga, Cormorants, Pelicans and one of Australia's largest flying birds – the Black-necked stork (Jabiru). The flat-bottomed boat is guided by an expert wildlife guide. This is a wonderful experience and gives a unique perspective of this huge National park and its origin

Today we rise early for our last breakfast on country. We pack down the camp and start our drive to Darwin. We will have the ability to stop at various sites along the way including the opportunity for dip in a local watering hole. Learning outcomes for students

World Expeditions Schools journeys are designed to encourage positive personal development and the learning of life skills, while leaving the communities and environments we travel to, in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to:
• build strong friendships and bonds with their peers, their teachers, and the local people they meet.
• increase the confidence to engage with new people, and collaboratively make informed decisions.
• discover the benefits of working cooperatively together as a cohesive team, to achieve a common objective.
• Increase the ability to face, and cope with, mental and physical challenges and therefore increase resilience.
• give students a chance to appreciate and care for the natural world. The environments we travel through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment.
• Learn personal skills i.e., time management, personal hygiene, responsibility for personal gear, patience, tolerance, and public speaking.
We help encourage students to learn what it means to be a true global citizen.
