Join the adventure for a trip of a lifetime and have an incredible opportunity to discover three unbelievable countries - Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala! Get ready for your adventure and get excited to participate in a range of diverse activities: snorkeling, hiking, dry cave exploration, a coral reef restoration program and volunteer activities with local communities as well as some visits to renowned archeological sites, volcanoes, and colonial cities! During this experience, you will discover some breathtaking views such as cenotes, the Mayan jungle, and the seven shades of blue of Bacalar! You will be also able to sample the flavors of each country's gastronomy based on Maya cuisine with a Spanish influence! If you are a nature lover, this trip is made for you! Throughout your journey, you will have the opportunity to see a large number of bird species, sea turtles, rays and colorful fish, as well as wild animals: Pink Flamingo, crocodiles and pelicans. This trip has been designed to make the most of the beautiful panoramas that Mexico, Belize and Guatemala have to offer.

Arrival at the Cancun International airport. Welcome meeting and trip briefing on the itinerary, and safety and health procedures by our guide. Transfer to the hotel to check-in where we stay in Playa Del Carmen for two nights. We will enjoy a welcome dinner in Playa Del Carmen, while discovering typical Mexican plates.

After a brief presentation of the project and its objective, we have the opportunity to participate in an emotional activity of creating an ideal vision of a healthy ecosystem, while understanding the challenges and difficulties of maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Today we will prepare a new home for corals, customizing several concrete bases, which will then be planted by specialized divers in the restoration zones. The activity closes with an explanation of the benefits of the structures developed, the next steps in the restoration and planting process, and sharing the learning experience. Lunch and dinner will be in a local restaurant situated in Playa Del Carmen while discovering the 15th Avenue, which is the most animated avenue in Playa Del Carmen. Overnight in hostel.

Travel to Valladolid today and explore several unique cenotes such as the Oxman Cenote. The cenote features clear waters, inviting visitors to swim, snorkel, or simply admire the underwater environment. Sunlight filters through the surrounding foliage, creating a serene atmosphere for relaxation and exploration. Lunch in the Oxman Cenote while enjoying the blue water and the scenic view. After the cenote visit, we will interact with a local Mayan community and learn about their rituals and gastronomy. Dinner in a local restaurant in Valladolid while discovering the uniqueness of this colonial city. Overnight in hostel in Valladolid.

Depart from the hotel for a city tour in Valladolid, the colonial city known as "The pearl of the East". Valladolid is a hospitable city full of history that makes Yucatán proud. For centuries it has been identified by the richness of the Spanish legacy, reflected in its temples and the ancestry of its old neighborhoods. It has an exceptional colonial flavor. Walking through its streets, with its brightly painted mansions, the neighborhoods with their churches and of course the imposing convent of San Bernardino de Siena but also the cathedral and markets. We will enjoy a lunch in the market of Valladolid while enjoying the authentic flavors. Dinner will be in a traditional restaurant in Valladolid in order to discover new specialities of this city. Overnight in hostel in Valladolid.

Rio Lagartos is a reserve which is the largest sanctuary of pink flamingo in North America. During this activity we will discover a unique environment and see wild animals such as various birds, pink flamingo, and crocodiles. At the end of the activity, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a Mayan spa with clay and enjoy the pink waters of Las Coloradas. Lunch today will be in Rio Lagartos in a seafood restaurant and dinner in a local restaurant in Valladolid. Overnight in hostel in Valladolid.

Discover the village of Nuevo Durango and meet the Mayan community. today, we will participate to a volunteer activity by helping the community to prepare typical plates with fresh ingredients and make handmade tortillas, discovering the unique flavor of the region. Also, we will learn about the agricultural production and hear more about the fauna and flora and endemic species of the Yucatan area. Then we will assist with a Mayan ritual with the community. Lunch and dinner today are typical plates prepared by the community at the restaurant. Overnight in hotel in Nuevo Durango.

Wake up early today for a guided birding hike in Nuevo Durango. Here we can observe around 438 species of birds, 39 of them are endemic to the area. Be on the lookout for the Pinta Jay, the Long-eared Quetzal, the Military Macaw, the Speckled Jay, the Mountain Sparrow, the Aztec Blackbird, the Mountain Parrot, the Golden Eagle, the Spotted Owl, the Red-headed Piranga, the Warbler red and the blue Mulatto just to name a few. Afterwards, we transfer to Bacalar, with lunch en route in Cario Puerto, where we stay overnight. Bacalar was a city of the Mayan civilization in Pre-Columbian times, and was founded in 415 A.D. with the name of "Sian Ka'an Bakhalal." . This was the first city in the region which the Spanish Conquistadores succeeded in taking and holding in 1543. Today we can appreciate Bacalar for its lagoon of seven shades of blue that offers the ideal space for swimming. Bacalar is also the gateway to the underwater caverns of the Cenote Azul and interesting Mayan archaeological areas covered by the jungle. Lunch is in Cario Puerto town and dinner in a local restaurant in Bacalar while enjoying the seven shades of blue of the lagoon. Overnight in hotel in Bacalar.

Today we visit to the amazing cenote Azul which is the largest cenote in Bacalar and the only one outside the Seven Colors Lagoon. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the labyrinths of mangrove tree roots, holes of various sizes and sloping rock formations. The clear waters are abundant with marine life and are great for snorkeling; the fish will serve as good exfoliation for your feet, too. Enjoy box lunches in the van en route to Belize and arrive in the afternoon to Caye Caulker. Caye Caulker is a small limestone coral island off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea measuring about 8 km (5 mi) north to south and less than 1.6 km (1 mi) mile east to west The north of the island is home to dense mangrove forest and diverse birdlife, protected by a forest reserve. Enjoy dinner tonight in a local restaurant in Caye Caulker while enjoying the view of the Island. Overnight in hotel in Caye Caulker.

Enjoy a great snorkeling tour today in Hol Chan marine park and discover coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove forest. Hol Chan Marine Reserve covers approximately 18 km² (4,448 acres) of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forest and is home to over 160 species of fish, 40 species of corals, 5 sponges, 8 algae’s, 2 seagrasses, 3 marine mammals and 3 species of sea turtle. Hol Chan is Mayan for "little channel". After the snorkelling activity, we will take the ferry to Belize City, then drive towards Guatemala. The group will have lunch in the van en route to Guatemala. Dinner tonight will be in El Remate in a local restaurant, enjoying the specialities of Guatemala. Overnight in hotel in El Remate.

Tikal is an ancient Mayan citadel in the rainforests of northern Guatemala. Possibly dating to the 1st century A.D., Tikal flourished between 200 and 850 A.D. and was later abandoned. Its iconic ruins of temples and palaces include the giant, ceremonial Lost World (Mundo Perdido) Pyramid and the Temple of the Grand Jaguar. At 70 meters, Temple IV is the tallest pre-Columbian structure in the Americas. Overnight in hotel in Tikal.

Drive towards Lanquin, which is a little mountain town populated by the q'eqchi' people. They have a strong sense of community and have a high respect for their surroundings, especially with regards to flora and fauna . Enjoy the stunning environment and viewpoints overlooking a lush jungle and adventurous caves. Then, we stop on the way in the Candelaria caves and do a tubing activity in the river. The caves are famous for their peculiar karst phenomena and significance to Mayan history. Amongst the attractions of their huge karst caverns are speleothems like stalactites, stalagmites, stalagnates and flowstone drapes. Pit caves, caused by collapse of the ceiling, light the inside of the caves. We will have box lunches in Candalaria caves and dinner in Lanquin at a typical restaurant while enjoying the really nice viewpoints of Lanquin. Overnight in hostel.

We start our drive today from Semuc Champey, which is a national park, hidden in the mountains of Guatemala, with a series of naturally formed water basins and consisting of crystal-clear turquoise river water. It is surrounded by steep mountain cliffs and a lush jungle vegetation. It is breathtaking. We continue to the colonial city of Antigua and stop at Biotopo del Quetzal, a natural preserve, for a short hike. Famous for its bird diversity, this green mountain preserve is home to the magnificent quetzal, a strikingly coloured bird that is found in the preserve’s humid highlands. We will have a box lunch in Biotopo del Quetsal while enjoying the nature reserve. Dinner is in a local restaurant in Antigua city in order to discover the specialities of this city. Overnight in hotel in Antigua city.

Depart from the hotel at 8:00 am to the trailhead of Pacaya volcano, is just over one hour away. We will enjoy a hike and have the opportunity to traverse unique volcanic-rock landscapes and ascend towards the peak. At this point, we will stop for a freshly prepared picnic to enjoy along with views of nearby volcanoes, water and fire. There will be plenty of opportunities to explore geothermal hot spots on the cooled lava formations. We will then discover the lesser-known forests and farmland. After the hike down, we will return to Antigua City for dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in a hotel in Antigua City.

City tour in Antigua colonial city, which is a remarkable city with cobblestone streets, ruined churches and beautifully restored homes. Antigua city is the third largest city in all Spanish Colonial America and for 200 years was the capital of the Guatemalan Kingdom. During this city tour we will discover the Merced Church (of Guatemalan ultra-baroque style), the Santa Catalina Arch, the Central Park, the Sirenas fountain, The Union Water Tank (a historic gathering place that was used by people to wash their clothes during colonial times), the Carmen Ruins (the facade of the church was built with stucco-covered bricks) and finishes with the Carmen Craft Market. The group will have lunch in a typical restaurant in the colonial city enjoying the architecture and the atmosphere. We have our farewell dinner in Antigua City and share our favourite stories of our trip. Overnight in hotel in Antigua City.

Grading

Adventure touring

These adventure tours sometimes involve travel at high altitude (rarely exceeding 4000m, except on certain trips in Tibet, Peru and India) and may visit remote areas of the world where facilities are often basic. Many of these trips sometimes involve some camping or basic lodging. These adventure tours will often involve long journeys and rough roads. Sightseeing and optional day walks are often included and these days may involve up to 5 hours of physical activity. To enjoy these adventures we suggest you are reasonably fit, healthy, have a moderately active lifestyle and have a positive attitude. Suggested preparation: Two or three times a week, we recommend you walk on undulating terrain for an hour or more, for at least 3 months prior to departure.
