Projects can include building of structures to give weaving demonstrations, maintenance and repair of llama enclosures or even greenhouse construction, based on the initiatives and budget of the school. The experience concludes with a special time of sharing and farewell between the students and their hosts, celebrating the friendships, learning, and memories created throughout the visit. Today, descend into the Sacred Valley and visit the picturesque market of Calca, where you will meet the caseras—local women who proudly sell an incredible array of colorful, locally grown produce. Situated at the crossroads between the Sacred Valley and Cusco’s cloud forest regions, Calca’s market is renowned for its remarkable diversity of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and traditional products. Enjoy a delicious lunch in Calca before setting out on a short walk through the Urco Terraces. Along the way, visit the archaeological site of Urco, an important ceremonial center of the Inca period. The day concludes at the Inkariy Museum, where you will explore the fascinating cultures that flourished in Peru long before the rise of the Inca Empire. Overnight in Lamay guesthouse.

This memorable route begins high in the mountains above Cusco and leads toward the remarkable archaeological site of Huchuycosco, perched above the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After driving to the community of Q’enqo, we set out on foot accompanied by cargo llamas and local muleteers, following ancient paths through the Andean highlands. The trail offers sweeping views of the Urubamba Mountain Range, traditional farming terraces, and the dramatic landscapes that have shaped life in the Andes for centuries. Walking along sections of an original Inca trail, we gain a deeper appreciation for the region’s history and natural beauty. A flavourful lunch will be enjoyed en route before continuing to Huchuycosco. Upon arrival, we explore this important archaeological site and learn about its role in the Inca world. From there, a short walk brings us to our homestay lodge, where we are warmly welcomed by our hosts. Set in a peaceful rural setting, the lodge offers a comfortable and authentic experience. In the evening, enjoy a traditional home-cooked dinner, spend time with the family, and relax in preparation for the next day's journey. Overnight in Huchuycosco homestay

Meals:  B,L,D

Wake up early as the locals do every morning in order to start their daily routine. We will split into groups in order to share the different labors. Some will help with feeding the animals and preparing the tools for the daily activities, and some will help with preparing a warm and healthy breakfast. Then we start our hike to the mountains to harvest the produce that we will use to cook our food for the day. Today we will learn more about the farming process and its cycles, and discover the connection of the local cultures with Pachamama (Mother Earth) and Pachacamac (Cosmos). Coming back with the harvest, our hosts will share with us their traditional recipes and we will participate in the preparation of a nutritious lunch. This will be a great opportunity to strengthen our relationship with our new friends and family from the Peruvian Andes and share topics about our own lives. We will have a farewell dinner and sit all together to share around a fire. Overnight: Ollantaytambo Hotel

Meals:  B,L,D

Early in the morning, we will transfer to Ollantaytambo Train Station to board the train toward Machu Picchu Village. We will disembark at KM 104, the starting point of the 1-Day Inca Trail, cross the bridge over the Vilcanota River, and begin our hike along a scenic trail through lush vegetation and cloud forest. The trail leads us to the impressive archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna, where we will have time to explore and admire this remarkable Inca settlement. After our visit, we will continue along the original Inca Trail, following ancient stone steps and pathways until we reach Inti Punku (the Sun Gate), the iconic entrance overlooking Machu Picchu. From this spectacular viewpoint, we will enjoy our first panoramic views of the citadel and have excellent opportunities for photos before descending to the site. In the afternoon, we will take the shuttle bus to Machu Picchu Village. Overnight: Machu Picchu hostel

Meals:  B,L,D

This morning, we will take the shuttle bus up to the Machu Picchu Citadel (“Llaqta”), where we will enjoy a guided visit of this extraordinary archaeological site. As we explore the ancient ruins, we will learn about the history, architecture, and significance of one of the most remarkable achievements of the Inca civilization, while taking in the breathtaking surroundings of the Cusco cloud forest and its dramatic mountain scenery. After our visit, we will return by bus to Machu Picchu Village for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our transfer will be waiting to take us to our hotel in the city of Cusco. Overnight in Cusco hotel.

Meals:  B,L,D

In the morning, we will drive to Sacsayhuamán and the surrounding archaeological sites, where we will discover impressive examples of Inca architecture and learn how the ancient cultures of Cusco harmoniously integrated their settlements with the natural landscape of the Andes. After our visit, we will follow an ancient Inca trail down to the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas, where we will enjoy lunch at a traditional local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will explore the historic center of Cusco, strolling through charming streets lined with art galleries, colonial handicrafts, and traditional Andean textiles. Our city tour includes visits to the Cathedral, Qoricancha (the Temple of the Sun), and the Plaza de Armas. If time permits, we may also visit the Pre-Columbian Art Museum or other iconic sites in the city. We will then return to the hotel to relax and prepare for our farewell dinner in Cusco. Learning outcomes for students

World Expeditions Schools journeys are designed to encourage positive personal development and the learning of life skills, while leaving the communities and environments we travel to, in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to:
• Build strong friendships and bonds with their peers, their teachers, and the local people they meet.
• Increase the confidence to engage with new people, and collaboratively make informed decisions.
• Discover the benefits of working cooperatively together as a cohesive team, to achieve a common objective.
• Increase the ability to face, and cope with, mental and physical challenges and therefore increase resilience.
• Give students a chance to appreciate and care for the natural world. The environments we travel through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment.
• Learn personal skills i.e., time management, personal hygiene, responsibility for personal gear, patience, tolerance, and public speaking.
We help encourage students to learn what it means to be a true global citizen.

Adventure touring

These are our least demanding trips. These journeys of discovery involve little extended activity and are suitable for people with a basic level of fitness and good health. The itinerary may take place in remote areas (with basic facilities) and may involve long travel days on various types of transport. Sightseeing may be conducted on foot and all participants should be capable of carrying their own luggage from vehicle to hotel rooms. Extended walking is available for those wanting something more demanding. * Suggested preparation: Once or twice a week, we recommend you walk on undulating terrain for an hour, for at least 2 -3 months prior to departure.
