Today it all begins and we're ready for it! We meet our guides at Launceston Airport and go through a trip briefing to set us up for the week ahead. Then we set off on a scenic journey through rolling farmland and historic towns toward Tasmania’s stunning east coast. Arriving at Binalong Bay, we are greeted by white sand beaches and turquoise water—an incredible start to our adventure. After lunch we head down to Coles Bay to settle into our accommodation before taking part in an Aboriginal cultural experience led by a NITA Aboriginal cultural educator. It's a great way to begin our trip - by learning about palawa history, perspectives, and establishing a connection to the Country we're about to explore. This evening we settle into our accommodation at St Helens and enjoy our first group dinner and night in this remarkable location. Accommodation: Coles Bay Cabins

This morning we wake to the bliss of our natural surrounds. After a delicious breakfast we head down the coast to the stunning Freycinet Peninsula. We arrive at the trail head to the Hazards Loop - an iconic Tasmania day hike. We hit the trail and climb into the Hazards Range, where the views explode across Wineglass Bay, Great Oyster Bay and the famous pink-granite mountains. It’s a truly rewarding hike, with a mix of uphill challenges, relaxing sections, and incredible lookout points that make every step worth it. As we descend, the track winds through bushland and out onto the coast, revealing quiet beaches and crystal-clear water. After the hike, we settle into our coastal accommodation, have a refreshing recovery dip in the ocean, and enjoy a relaxed evening together. Accommodation: Coles Bay Cabins

Today is a fantastic adventure day! In the morning we jump in kayaks and paddle along the Freycinet Peninsula, weaving our way past granite cliffs, hidden coves and white-sand beaches. From the kayak, the coastline feels even more wild and remote, with clear water below us and epic views back to the Hazards Range. After lunch, we switch gears for an adrenaline-packed afternoon of rock climbing. With experienced instructors, we challenge ourselves on coastal rock faces, learning techniques, building confidence and cheering each other on. By the end of the day we’re tired, buzzing and full of stories — another unforgettable Freycinet experience to add to our list! Accommodation: Coles Bay Cabins

We start our day with a 1hr 45min transfer further south to Triabunna, and then a 30min ferry to wukaluwikiwayna/Maria Island. What greets us as we disembark is one of Tasmania’s least visited, yet most wonderful, locations! We are completely captivated from the moment we step ashore Maria Island. That captivation increases as we learn about the rich history of this place - from Aboriginal habitation, to convict penal station, to farming, and to the National Park it is today. We spend the day on exploring the Painted Cliffs and Fossil Cliffs and picnicking with the local wildlife (wombats, pademelons and Cape Barren geese!). The peaceful atmosphere and lack of crowds make this a standout day before we ferry back to the mainland in the afternoon and get checked into our accommodation to relax. Accommodation: Orford Cabins

Meals:  B,L,D

We've had some active days and we make sure to have a good breakfast this morning to fuel for more fun today! We are heading further south again to to tukana/Tasman Peninsula - home of the iconic Three Capes Walk and the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere. We tackle a segment of this iconic trail via a hike to Cape Hauy. The trail offers incredible views with towering sea cliffs and ocean stretching in every direction. The walk is both challenging and rewarding, building a real sense of accomplishment as we move together along the track. On completion, a short drive brings us to Port Arthur where we spend our final night. Walking distance: 9.5km | Walking time: 5 hours. Accommodation: Port Arthur Cabins.

It’s our final day in Tasmania, but we’re not quite finished yet. This morning we travel to the Port Arthur Historic Site, spending time exploring one of Australia’s most significant heritage locations. As we walk through the preserved ruins, we learn about its layered past as a convict settlement and reflect on the powerful stories connected to this place. Depending on our flight schedule, we may then sneak in a visit to kunanyi / Mount Wellington, taking in sweeping views over Hobart and the surrounding waterways. It’s a fitting way to farewell Tasmania. After a final lunch together, we share reflections, celebrate our achievements and say our goodbyes, returning home with strong connections and lasting memories from an unforgettable journey.

Learning outcomes for students

World Expeditions Schools journeys are designed to encourage positive personal development and the learning of life skills, while leaving the communities and environments we travel to, in a better condition than when we arrived.
The programs are designed to:
• Build strong friendships and bonds with their peers, their teachers, and the local people they meet.
• Increase the confidence to engage with new people, and collaboratively make informed decisions.
• Discover the benefits of working cooperatively together as a cohesive team, to achieve a common objective.
• Increase the ability to face, and cope with, mental and physical challenges and therefore increase resilience.
• Give students a chance to appreciate and care for the natural world. The environments we travel through are beautiful and often pristine, invariably the students will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding about how their individual actions impact on the environment.
• Learn personal skills i.e., time management, personal hygiene, responsibility for personal gear, patience, tolerance, and public speaking.
We help encourage students to learn what it means to be a true global citizen.
