Our wide range of self-guided itineraries across Europe have all been designed to afford you as much freedom as possible to explore what interests you, at your own pace. We take care of the logistics: we supply you with lodgings* in charming mountain huts, inns and 2, 3 and 4-star hotels (with private facilities) chosen for their local flavour; we include road guides with detailed maps and information about sites you can visit; we include breakfast daily and often dinner; we organise for your luggage to be transferred daily: and if cycling, we supply rental bikes - generally modern 21-speed bicycles. These itineraries are flexible, allowing you ample time to explore the sights and delight in hidden treasures.

When you choose one of our guided options, you’ll enjoy the company of an expert guide who is with you from the time you arrive until the time your trip concludes, and a small group of like-minded travelling companions from around the world. The maximum group size ranges from 4 to 16 participants depending on your chosen trip. As with our Self-Guided options, we handle all of the logistics. Small group does not mean you’re tied ‘en mass’ - each day there is time set aside to go off exploring on your own. Travelling in the safety and camaraderie of a small group is a great way to explore Europe’s untrodden paths. For our guided cycling programs, we provide all the equipment that is required for your cycling trip. For example, we generally provide quality 21-speed bikes, helmets and panniers on all of our cycling itineraries. Be sure to check out our inclusions, as well as download our detailed trip notes for each itinerary for the full details.

We provide all the equipment that is required for the type of trip you join. For example, we generally provide quality 21-speed bikes, helmets, panniers and instruction manuals on our cycling itineraries, as well as maps and sometimes even a rucksack on our self-guided walking options.

Because you set the pace and you decide what you want to spend time exploring each day, there's really no such thing as a typical day. What is standard across all of our trips is that at the end of each day, after you've explored to your heart's content, you will spend the night in a charming country inn, pension, guest house, hotel, bed and breakfast or even boat that has been selected for its charismatic nature and for epitomising the region you are travelling in. Most are family run, so expect a healthy dose of local charm and insights while you're there. In the morning, savour a hearty local breakfast before venturing out on a new adventure. While you're out discovering more treasures, our vehicles will move your bags to that evening's destination so you don't have to worry about carrying your luggage.

On our guided tours, you travel in small groups with a local multi-lingual guide whose knowledge of the terrain, flora, fauna and history of the region is exemplary. Our self guided tours give you the freedom to explore at your own pace - but they're not unsupported. We provide detailed route notes and maps and our local partners are on hand throughout the day in the unlikely event that something goes wrong. All we request is that you select a program that matches your level of fitness to ensure that you have a comfortable experience.

Our adventures are first and foremost holidays and can be undertaken by anyone in a reasonable state of health and fitness - however, please carefully read our Terms & Conditions when booking and view the trip grading and grading definition for the trip you are interested in before confirming your booking. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with our grading system by reading our detailed trip notes (which you can order through this site) and to speak with our expert staff about the physical requirements of your chosen trip.

We have carefully selected a range of charming country inns, pensions, guest houses, hotels, bed and breakfasts and boats based on their charismatic nature and the fact that they epitomise the region you are travelling in. Most are family run, so expect a healthy dose of local charm and insights while you're there.

Most of our self guided trips are priced based on twinshare. If you are travelling solo the single traveller surcharge will apply. The single supplement would apply if you were travelling in a party with others and you had chosen to book a single room. You would never pay a single traveller surcharge and a single supplement.

We provide you with detailed maps and route instructions for your chosen itinerary. If you're undertaking one of our cycling trips, we also provide instructions for bike handling and fit the bike to your frame or size. Generally speaking, anyone taking a reasonable level of care and following the guidelines we provide shouldn't have any problems - this is where common sense plays a big part. The vast majority of our trips are not difficult, and overall, are safe, tried and tested. However, in the unlikely event you get into difficulty, our on-the-ground support staff are just a phone call away.

Absolutely. Our groups option is ideal if you have a group of friends or social network that's planning on travelling to Europe and are looking for an extra level of flexibility in your touring plans. With 'inn-to-inn' evening accommodation organised, you’re free to explore as a collective group, or break off in small groups to satisfy individual preferences before meeting up again at the end of the day to share experiences. Depending on your group size, we can tailor an itinerary  to suit your group, with exclusive group departures. Contact our office to discuss your plans and we can customise a solution to suit your needs.
